China’s overseas investment climbs to the 13th place globally

Journalists learnt from the National Commercial Work Conference held here that in 2006 China’s overseas investment ranked 13th from the 17th in 2005 in the global rating.
In order to encourage and provide guidance for Chinese enterprises to engage in overseas investment and cooperation, Ministry of Commerce, together with other relevant departments, promulgated “Guidelines for Overseas Investment Industries” and the new “Directory of Overseas Investment Industries by Countries”. In 2006, China’s non-financial direct investment amounted to 16.1 billion US dollars with a year-on-year growth of 32%, ranking 13th from the 17th in the previous year in the global rating. The value of foreign project contracting reached 30 billion US dollars, increasing 37.9% year-on-year, and the value of international service cooperation was 5.37 billion US dollars, a 12.1% growth year-on-year. Totally 351,000 labor service personnel were sent abroad with a net increase of 77000 people. There was a significant increase of major projects of overseas investment and cooperation.
